What should I do for Birth Mother's Day this year?

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas? Please Help

  1. You could do something special for your son, you could read a book about adoption, adoptees, or other adoption related article? You could make your son a blanket or some other keepsake. You could write your son a letter he could have for the rest of his life? I did not know there was a birthmothers day. I wonder if my birthmother knows that? I just celebrate her on mothers day... is there a separate day for birthmothers?

  2. Yeah, its the saturday before mothers day. its a relatively new holiday started in 1990 by a group of birth mothers from seattle. I was thinking of growing some lady balls and asking if I could visit him, but then I remember that I have school all day saturday from now until June. So I can't do anything :(. Those are great suggestions though and I will put those in my back pocket for later :)

  3. You can do many of my suggestions from afar- even if you don't get to see him.

  4. Why don't you see if you can go on Sunday? I would hope they would invite you to the mothers day at their church or something- but apparently that is not the case- I would call and see if you could see him Sunday.

  5. Sunday is mothers day, and I really do feel like that day is for his adoptive mom and their family. Plus Im not to comfortable asking for extra visits yet.

  6. This is a blog I think you should read.

She is an adoptive mom and an adoptee. She has a lot of really great things to say. The birthmother of her daughter also blogs...http://ericaljohnson.blogspot.com/

I encourage you to go read these blogs. I am so sad that you do not feel comfortable asking for extra visits. I hope that in time they are able to open their hearts to you and you will get to be a part of your mutual sons life. I did not get to find my birthmom until I was 20 years old and did not meet her until I was 26. I thought of her everyday.
